Overview

The North South University Institutional Repository (NSU IR) is the open-access digital repository of North South University (NSU) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Operating on DSpace software, the repository collects and disseminates the intellectual and research output of NSU's faculty, researchers, and students, including journal articles, conference proceedings, theses, and other scholarly publications.

History and Parent Institution

North South University was established in 1992 as the first private university in Bangladesh under the Private University Act 1992. It was founded by the Foundation for Promotion of Education and Research (FPER), a charitable, non-profit organisation. The university was formally inaugurated on 10 February 1993 by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. NSU's permanent campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka opened in June 2009.

NSU operates what is described as the first fully automated university library in Bangladesh, using a bilingual Library Management System developed in-house. The library pioneered online journal subscriptions in Bangladesh, beginning with JSTOR, IEEE, ACM Digital Library, and other databases in 2002. The institutional repository was developed as an extension of the library's commitment to open access and digital scholarship.

Collections and Holdings

The repository contains journal articles, conference proceedings, graduate theses and dissertations, and other scholarly outputs across NSU's schools of Business and Economics, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Health and Life Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences. Special supplement materials, newspaper publications, and institutional records are also archived.

Access and Usage

NSU IR is freely accessible at repository.northsouth.edu. The DSpace platform supports OAI-PMH for interoperability with global aggregators. Open-access content may be downloaded freely.
