The NLP Digital Collection – Manuscripts & Monographs (collection code RI01) is an online digital archive maintained by the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), providing free public access to digitized manuscripts, books, and other monographs from the library's Filipiniana and heritage collections. It is hosted on the library's digital library platform at nlpdl.nlp.gov.ph.
The National Library of the Philippines, located in Ermita, Manila, is the Philippines' official repository of the country's printed and recorded cultural heritage. It holds over 1.6 million items including more than 210,000 books, 880,000 manuscripts, 170,000 newspaper issues, 66,000 theses and dissertations, 104,000 government publications, 3,800 maps, and 53,000 photographs. The library traces its origins to the Museo-Biblioteca de Filipinas, established in the late 19th century, and operates under the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The current building in Ermita was inaugurated on June 19, 1961.
The RI01 Manuscripts & Monographs digital collection contains digitized rare and heritage Filipiniana materials including manuscripts, early monographs, and related documents. The NLP's broader digital library encompasses multiple collection codes covering newspapers, periodicals, photographs, maps, and government publications. Notable holdings across all NLP collections include the original manuscripts of José Rizal's Noli Me Tángere, El Filibusterismo, and Mi último adiós; the Doctrina Christiana (1593), the earliest book printed in the Philippines; the Kartilya ng Katipunan; the Philippine Declaration of Independence; and the revolutionary newspaper El Heraldo de la Revolución.
The digital collection is freely accessible online. Users can browse by date, view cover images, and access full-text digitized documents. The platform is optimized for PDF viewing in browsers; downloading is recommended for large files. The broader NLP Digital Library portal at nlpdl.nlp.gov.ph provides access to all collection series.
