John Harrison Nichols, born February 3, 1959, is executive editor of The Nation, having previously served as the magazine's national affairs correspondent and Washington correspondent. He is also associate editor of The Capital Times, the daily newspaper in Madison, Wisconsin, and a contributing writer for The Progressive and In These Times. He grew up in Union Grove, Wisconsin, and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin–Parkside and a master's degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. He co-founded Free Press, a media reform advocacy organization, and has co-written or edited more than a dozen books, including several with Robert W. McChesney such as The Death and Life of American Journalism (2011) and Dollarocracy: How the Money-and-Media-Election Complex Is Destroying America (2013). His book with Senator Bernie Sanders, It's OK to Be Angry About Capitalism, was a New York Times bestseller. Nichols covered the Persian Gulf War and South Africa's transition from apartheid, has reported from more than 20 countries, and has covered every U.S. presidential election since 1984.
