The New Mexico State Records Center and Archives (SRCA) preserves, protects, and facilitates access to public records held in trust for the people of New Mexico. It is the facility established by the New Mexico Commission of Public Records to fulfill the Commission's statutory mandate.
The Commission of Public Records was created by the New Mexico Legislature in 1959 and charged with the care, custody, preservation, and disposition of public records created by state, county, and local governments, as well as establishing the State Records Center and Archives.
SRCA houses public records from the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of New Mexico state government, including documents from the state's Spanish (1621-1821), Mexican (1821-1846), and territorial (1846-1912) periods, along with personal papers donated by families, attorneys, political figures, and benevolent organizations. SRCA also administers the Public Records Act and State Rules Act, publishing the New Mexico Register.
SRCA is located at 1205/1209 Camino Carlos Rey, Santa Fe, New Mexico, in the New Mexico Library, Archives and Records Center Building, which it shares with the State Library. The State Records Center operates by appointment only.
