The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is a public land-grant research university in Paradise, Nevada, adjacent to the Las Vegas Strip.
Journalism at UNLV is housed in the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies, a unit of the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs named for Las Vegas Sun founder Hank Greenspun. Based in Greenspun Hall, the school offers undergraduate concentrations in journalism, digital and social media, media studies, and sports media, along with a graduate program leading to a Master of Arts, and operates KUNV Radio, UNLV-TV, and the Rebel Media Group.
UNLV originated as an extension program of the University of Nevada, Reno, which began holding classes for Las Vegas students in 1951. The Nevada Board of Regents founded the Southern Division of the University of Nevada on September 10, 1957, and the school became Nevada Southern University in 1965 before adopting its current name in 1969.
