Overview

The National Statistical Office Statistics and Key Indicators Portal is the primary public-facing data dissemination platform of the National Statistical Office of Thailand (NSO; Thai: สำนักงานสถิติแห่งชาติ), headquartered in Bangkok. The portal provides access to official Thai statistics from censuses and sample surveys conducted by the NSO and other government agencies, covering demographic, economic, social, and environmental topics.

History and Founding

Official statistics in Thailand have a history dating to April 1, 1915, when statistical work began under King Rama VI, following the establishment of the Statistical Forecast Bureau on March 14, 1914. The office underwent several transformations over the subsequent decades. On May 23, 1963, the Central Statistical Office was upgraded to the National Statistical Office with departmental status, directly under the Office of the Prime Minister—a date considered the founding of the modern NSO. The Statistics Act of 1965 further defined NSO's authority and duties. The NSO is now an agency of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES). In June 1963, the NSO was the first Thai government agency to install a computer system for census and survey processing.

Collections and Holdings

The NSO Statistics and Key Indicators Portal provides access to statistical data from national censuses conducted every ten years, as well as ongoing sample surveys covering household income, labor force, business, health, and many other topics. Data is available in tabular and downloadable formats. The portal supports users from the public sector, private sector, educational institutions, and the general public. Key indicators cover population and demographics, employment and labor, industry and agriculture, economic performance, social welfare, and environmental data.

The portal is freely accessible online at www.nso.go.th. Data can be browsed by topic or downloaded. The NSO also operates provincial statistical offices throughout Thailand.
