The National Open Data Catalog and Datasets Portal (Persian: درگاه ملی داده باز) is the Iranian government's primary state-sponsored open data platform, hosted at data.gov.ir and managed by the Information Technology Organization of Iran (ITO). It serves as a centralized catalogue aggregating datasets from various government ministries and agencies, providing public access to official Iranian government data in formats including CSV and JSON.
The portal is part of Iran's broader Electronic Government Data Governance program, which developed in stages through the 2010s. Under President Hassan Rouhani's administration (2013–2021), e-government initiatives accelerated, and the National Data Catalogue at data.gov.ir was established as a transparency and open data resource. The portal publishes datasheets on national budgets, provincial allocations, administrative boundaries, economic indicators, and demographic data from the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI).
The portal aggregates datasets across multiple domains including national budgets and provincial spending allocations, administrative boundary data, economic indicators, population and census statistics from the Statistical Centre of Iran, and data from multiple ministries and government agencies. National statistics datasets cover economic indicators, population censuses, and sectoral metrics. Iran achieved an 85% openness score in the Global Open Data Index for accessibility, timeliness, and format availability on the statistics category.
The portal is accessible online at data.gov.ir and provides datasets for download in multiple formats. It is intended for use by researchers, journalists, civil society organizations, businesses, and government agencies.
