Use of DataThe Jaringan Informasi Kearsipan Nasional (JIKN), or National Archival Information Network, is the national online archival information system of Indonesia, managed by the Arsip Nasional Republik Indonesia (ANRI), the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia. JIKN serves as the primary public access portal for searching and discovering archival records held across government institutions throughout the country.
JIKN was established as part of Indonesia's national archival information framework, operating alongside the Sistem Informasi Kearsipan Nasional (SIKN), the National Archival Information System, which serves as the back-end data entry interface for member institutions (known as simpul jaringan, or network nodes). ANRI itself traces its institutional roots to 28 January 1892, when the colonial Dutch administration founded the Landarchief. JIKN was developed to support the principle of transparent, accountable governance through public access to archival records.
JIKN aggregates archival catalogue information from network nodes—government institutions at national, provincial, and municipal levels across Indonesia. The portal provides searchable records describing both dynamic (current) and static (historical) archives, with some records linked to digitised files. ANRI's own holdings extend back to VOC (Dutch East India Company) records from 1602. The system enables search by archive description, creator, function, repository, subject, place, and digital object.
ANRI's holdings include photographs, moving images, audio recordings, and printed materials spanning Indonesia's colonial and post-independence history, constituting a significant resource for the history of Indonesian media and public communication.
JIKN is freely accessible to the public at jikn.anri.go.id. Government institutions wishing to become network nodes must meet administrative and technical requirements and sign a commitment letter. The system is managed by ANRI's Directorate of Archival Information, based in South Jakarta.
