The National Academic Digital Repository of Ethiopia (NADRE) is Ethiopia's national open-access institutional repository platform, enabling researchers and academics across Ethiopian universities to deposit, share, cite, and preserve their research outputs. NADRE serves as a central hub for Ethiopian academic scholarship, supporting open science principles and the dissemination of research across all disciplines.
NADRE was established as a transformative initiative in Ethiopian higher education. It was notably the catalyst for the establishment of Ethiopia's first national Open Access Policy, marking a landmark in the country's research infrastructure. Its governance and leadership model was designed to involve all stakeholders in Ethiopian research and higher education, and has been cited as a model for other African countries seeking to build national research repositories.
NADRE holds research outputs from Ethiopian academic institutions spanning all major disciplines including business, economics, development studies, technology, social sciences, and health sciences. Each uploaded item receives a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for permanent citation and discovery, and can be linked to researchers' ORCID profiles. The platform supports community-based curation, allowing institutions, projects, and journals to create their own sub-communities within the repository. Both open and embargoed research outputs are accepted.
NADRE is freely accessible online at nadre.ethernet.edu.et. Any researcher affiliated with an Ethiopian institution may upload research outputs to the platform. The repository supports flexible licensing options and tracks citations and usage statistics to demonstrate research impact.
