Overview

The National Academic Digital Library of Ethiopia (NADLE) is a digital library project under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Ethiopia. Its primary objective is to collect and collate metadata and provide full-text access to resources from multiple national and international digital libraries, supporting Ethiopia's academic and research community with free access to a wide range of scholarly and educational materials.

History and Founding

NADLE was established as a national initiative under the Ethiopian government's Ministry of Science and Higher Education (formerly Ministry of Education) to address the need for affordable, accessible academic resources for students and researchers across Ethiopian universities. The portal aggregates content from partner national and international digital libraries, avoiding the cost barriers that often restrict access in developing academic contexts.

Collections and Holdings

NADLE hosts more than 81,960 items spanning multiple disciplines, including business and economics, health science, social sciences, development studies, humanities, language studies and journalism, law and governance, technology, veterinary medicine, and general reference materials. Collections include textbooks, journal articles, audiobooks, lectures, simulations, and fiction. The platform also provides access to university freshman modules and vocational technology learning materials. It links to external resources including open access journal directories, e-book repositories, and subject-specific databases.
