Overview

Nanaimo News Bulletin is a weekly newspaper covering Nanaimo, Lantzville and Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, and the only weekly newspaper remaining in Nanaimo. It is published by Black Press Media, part of Carpenter Media Group.

History

Began circulation May 2, 1988, as part of Island Publishers, then a group of Vancouver Island community papers based in Courtenay, Parksville, Ladysmith, Duncan, Goldstream and Sidney. Its longtime local competitor, the Nanaimo Daily News (tracing to the 1874 Nanaimo Free Press), closed in January 2016 after 141 years under Black Press ownership, along with sister paper the Harbour City Star; Black Press itself was acquired by Carpenter Media Group in March 2024.
