Overview

The Myanmar Statistical Information Service (MMSIS) is a web-based national statistical database developed by the Central Statistical Organization (CSO) of Myanmar. It serves as the country's primary online platform for disseminating official socioeconomic and demographic data to the public, researchers, policymakers, and international organizations.

History and Background

MMSIS was developed through a capacity-building project titled "IT-based Statistical Data Management in Myanmar," supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). It was designed to respond to growing demand for accessible statistical information about Myanmar at both national and sub-national levels. The platform operates under the authority of the CSO, which was first established as the Central Statistical and Economic Development (CSED) body in 1952 under the Central Statistical Authority Act, later reorganized as the CSO in 1974. Myanmar's Statistics Law of 2018 further reinforced the CSO's mandate as the national statistical authority.

Collections and Holdings

MMSIS aggregates official statistics from the CSO and other statistical line agencies within the Myanmar National Statistical System (NSS). Data is organized by subject, region, and alphabetical index, and includes indicators covering trade, agriculture, health, education, labor, transportation, investment, prices, and natural resources. The platform also links to the National Summary Dissemination Page (NSDP) for macroeconomic and financial data.

Access and Usage

MMSIS functions as an open data platform, providing free public access to statistical tables, visualizations, and downloadable datasets in Excel, CSV, and TXT formats. Its user-friendly interface supports data browsing in both Myanmar language and English. Users can generate custom reports and access metadata.
