The Museum of Moving Image (MOMI@FINAS) is a film history museum operated by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia, or FINAS). Located at the FINAS office in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, MOMI@FINAS is dedicated to documenting and exhibiting the history of Malaysian cinema and the moving image industry. The museum was formerly known as the Galeri Perfileman FINAS before being moved to its current location and rebranded.
FINAS was officially established in June 1981 under the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia Act as a federal government agency tasked with developing and regulating the Malaysian film industry. The museum component, originally known as the Galeri Perfileman FINAS, was subsequently established to preserve and display artefacts and information related to Malaysian film history. The museum was relocated and renamed MOMI@FINAS in recognition of its expanded mission and renewed public focus.
The museum features interactive and traditional exhibits covering the history of Malaysian cinema from its earliest origins through to the contemporary era. Holdings include historical film production equipment, screening apparatus, archival photographs, documents, and artefacts illustrating the development of the Malaysian film industry. The museum documents the trajectory from early international productions featuring Malaysia to the emergence of a locally produced film culture.
MOMI@FINAS is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at the FINAS Petaling Jaya office. Admission details are available through the FINAS website. The museum is positioned as an educational resource for students, a tourism attraction, and a cultural heritage site for the Malaysian film industry.
