Morris Media Network is owned by Morris Communications Company, LLC, a privately held media company controlled by the Morris family. William S. Morris Jr. and his wife bought stock in The Augusta Chronicle in 1945, founding what became Morris Communications; his son William S. "Billy" Morris III led the company for decades, and Morris family members remain in leadership roles.
Morris Communications sold its newspaper division, Morris Publishing Group, to GateHouse Media in 2017 for $120 million, retaining its magazine, outdoor advertising, and other diversified holdings under Morris Media Network and related units.
