Morgan State University is a public, historically Black research university in Baltimore, Maryland.
Journalism at Morgan State is housed in the School of Global Journalism and Communication (SGJC), created in July 2013 under founding dean DeWayne Wickham. In 2020 the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) voted to grant SGJC full accreditation, making Morgan the second university in Maryland with an accredited journalism school.
Morgan State was founded in 1867 as the Centenary Biblical Institute, a Methodist Episcopal seminary established in Baltimore to train young men for the ministry. The school was renamed Morgan College in 1890, became a public institution when purchased by the state of Maryland in 1939, and achieved university status in 1975.
