The University of Montana is a public research university in Missoula, Montana.
Journalism at the University of Montana is housed in the School of Journalism, founded in 1914 with eight students and one of the oldest accredited journalism programs in the United States. Based in Don Anderson Hall since 2007, the school is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and offers a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Master of Arts, including a program in Environmental Science and Natural Resource Journalism.
The Montana State Legislature authorized the creation of the University of Montana on February 13, 1893, and it opened on September 11, 1895, with classes initially held at a converted schoolhouse before the university moved to its current campus at the base of Mount Sentinel in 1899.
