The Moi University Institutional Repository (ir.mu.ac.ke) is the open access digital repository of Moi University, a public university located in Kesses, near Eldoret, in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. The repository provides open access to the university's scholarly and research output, including theses, dissertations, journal articles, conference papers, and other academic materials.
Moi University was established in 1984 by an Act of Parliament (Moi University Act, 1984) as the second public university in Kenya. The institutional repository was established in the mid-2010s, with its first registration recorded in the Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR) and the Directory of Open Access Repositories (OpenDOAR) in September 2015. The repository runs on the DSpace platform, a widely used open-source repository software system.
The repository holds scholarly output from Moi University's 15 schools, covering science, technology, engineering, mathematics, health and medicine, arts, humanities, and social sciences. Primary content types include journal articles, conference and workshop papers, and theses and dissertations. As of 2025, the repository holds tens of thousands of items contributed by Moi University faculty, researchers, and postgraduate students.
The repository is freely accessible online at ir.mu.ac.ke. Content is discoverable via the repository's built-in search and browse functions, and is also harvestable via the OAI-PMH protocol at ir.mu.ac.ke:8080/oai, enabling indexing by global discovery services. Moi University has a total student population of over 52,000 and a staff component of approximately 3,000, with the repository serving as the primary open access channel for the institution's research output.
