The paper reduced from multi-day to weekly publication "for the foreseeable future" as of its final Friday edition on March 27, 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It was previously owned by Enterprise Media Group, a Rhoades family company across six generations that also owned The Dunlap Reporter and The Mapleton Press in Iowa and five Nebraska papers. In early 2025, the Rhoades family sold Enterprise Media Group to Alabama-based Carpenter Media Group, which also acquired Black Press in 2024 and owns nearly 300 newspapers across the United States and Canada.
