Military Veterans in Journalism is a nonprofit professional association that builds community for military veterans, supports career development, and advocates for the hiring and advancement of veterans in newsrooms. It provides fellowships, mentorships, internships, training, networking, and employment resources.
The organization was co-founded in 2019. It grew from an informal network into a national professional association with newsroom partnerships, annual convenings, membership services, and paid career-entry programs.
MVJ focuses specifically on the transition of military veterans into journalism and on retaining and promoting veterans in the news industry. Its programs combine professional education, peer support, newsroom placements, and advocacy.
MVJ does not operate a general grant program. Individuals apply to specific paid fellowships, internships, and other career opportunities when calls are posted. Eligibility and required materials vary by partner newsroom, and some opportunities require current MVJ membership.
Zack Baddorf is co-founder and Executive Director. He leads the organization's programs, partnerships, and advocacy work.
