The Meteorological Data Open Platform (opendata.cwa.gov.tw) is the official open data service of Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA), the government meteorological research and forecasting institution of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The platform provides public access to real-time and historical weather and climate data collected from Taiwan's nationwide network of observation stations.
The platform was originally operated under the Central Weather Bureau (CWB), a division of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, which was renamed the Central Weather Administration in 2023. In September 2023, the platform's download URLs were updated to reflect the new agency branding, and users were notified to update their integrations accordingly. The CWA has operated weather observation networks in Taiwan for more than a century.
The platform provides datasets including automated weather station observations (temperature, precipitation, wind, humidity, air pressure), daily rainfall records, weather forecasts at township level for up to one week, climate statistics, and basic station metadata. Data formats available include JSON and XML, and an API is provided for high-volume users who register for membership. The platform also provides historical climate data and research datasets.
Most datasets are freely accessible and downloadable without registration. Users who require bulk data downloads are encouraged to register for a free membership account. The platform is used by researchers, developers, media organizations, and the public for weather monitoring, climate research, and application development. All datasets are published under open government data licensing.
