Use of DataThe Medill School of Journalism, Media, and Integrated Marketing Communications is a part of Northwestern University. Both graduate and undergraduate courses of study are offered. Alumni have won forty Pulitzer prizes. The school expanded in 1921, to Chicago, in 2008, to Qatar, and in 2016, San Francisco, California.
Named after Joseph Medill (1823-1899), owner and editor of the Chicago Tribune, the Medill embraces modern techniques in journalism. Students experience real-world reporting in regional and national markets. Students can connect with career services with workshops, networking events, and individual coaching. During their study year, students must choose a specialization to train in a specific area of journalism. The one-year master's curriculum offers Health, Environment and Science; Magazine; Media Innovation and Content Strategy; Politics, Policy and Foreign Affairs; Business, Economics, and Money: Social Justice and Solutions Journalism; Investigative Reporting: Sports Media; and Video and Broadcast.
The Integrated Marketing Communications program offers a Master of Science degree and Undergraduate Certificate; the graduate level program has full-time, part-time and online options. Full-time students can pursue a specialization in brand strategy, content marketing, digital and interactive marketing, marketing analytics, strategic communications and media management.
The school added professional-grade TV studio and multimedia classrooms in 2002 in the McCormick Foundation Center. To reflect the broader focus, the faculty, in late 2010, approved the new name, "Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications."
