History

Formed when GateHouse Media combined the Macomb Journal and the Macomb Eagle, with Lynne Campbell serving as co-publisher. GateHouse acquired Gannett in 2019 and retained the Gannett name. Gannett did not renew The Voice's physical office lease in Macomb at the end of March 2023, leaving the city without a locally staffed daily newspaper office; a locally run startup, the Community News Brief, founded by Lynne Campbell, has since filled much of the local reporting gap.
