MarketWatch is a financial news website providing business news, stock market data and personal-finance coverage, operated as a subsidiary of Dow Jones & Company.
MarketWatch launched October 30, 1997, as CBS.MarketWatch.com, a 50/50 joint venture between Data Broadcasting Corporation and CBS News led by Larry Kramer, with Thom Calandra as its first editor-in-chief. The company went public in January 1999 during the dot-com boom, and David Callaway became editor-in-chief in 2003 after Calandra resigned amid insider-trading allegations in January 2004. Dow Jones & Company acquired MarketWatch for $528 million in January 2005. In October 2020, MarketWatch introduced a subscription paywall, and Mark DeCambre was named editor-in-chief on March 21, 2022.
MarketWatch operates the MarketWatch Radio Network, providing market-news updates to radio stations every 30 minutes, and BigCharts.com, its stock-charting tool, alongside subscription products including Retirement Weekly and the Hulbert Financial Digest.
