Biography

Maria P. Gindhart is dean of the College of Arts and Media at Marshall University, a position she assumed July 1, 2023, overseeing the college's schools and departments including the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications. She came to Marshall after 11 years at Georgia State University, where she served as associate dean of the College of the Arts and, earlier, as associate director of the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design, co-writing a grant to fund the WomanLeads in the Arts program. Gindhart holds a bachelor's degree from Bowdoin College and a master's degree and Ph.D. in the history of art from the University of Pennsylvania. Her scholarly research focuses on nineteenth-century French art, including museum display, natural history imagery, and comparative anatomy, and has appeared in journals such as Nineteenth-Century Art Worldwide.
