Anandabazar Patrika - co-founder and proprietor (1922)
Suresh Chandra Majumdar was the co-founder and founding proprietor of Anandabazar Patrika, the Bengali-language daily newspaper first published in Kolkata on March 13, 1922, alongside its inaugural editor, Prafulla Kumar Sarkar. Launched as a four-page evening daily printed in red ink as a mark of protest against British colonial rule, the paper became known in the contemporary English-language press as a "danger signal" for its nationalist stance. Majumdar and Sarkar's paper grew into what became India's ABP Group, later encompassing the English-language daily The Telegraph, Bengali magazines, and television news channels. Majumdar had no direct heir, and control of the newspaper passed through the Sarkar family, who continue to lead the ABP Group today.
