Degrees offered

LSE's Department of Media and Communications offers an MSc in Media and Communications, with tracks including a research track for students pursuing MPhil/PhD study, and an MSc in Media, Communication and Development. The department also offers MPhil and PhD research degrees.

Programs and emphasis

The department takes an explicitly social-science approach to media, rather than vocational or technical journalism training, examining media in relation to political economy, regulation, power, and audience response. It was rated #1 in the UK and #3 globally for Communication and Media Studies in the 2022 QS World University Rankings. Graduates go on to careers including broadcasting, journalism, advertising, and new media industries, alongside academic and policy paths.

History

The Department of Media and Communications is one of LSE's academic departments within the School's Faculty of Social Sciences, based on LSE's central London campus.
