Freelance editor and writer
David Loeb is the co-founder and longtime publisher of Bay Nature magazine, an independent publication covering the natural history and environment of the San Francisco Bay Area. He founded the magazine in 2001 together with Malcolm Margolin, and has served as its publisher and an editor since its first issue. Speaking at the magazine's 15th-anniversary milestone in 2016, Loeb described his role as both editor and publisher, overseeing coverage that introduces readers to a topic and moves on to the next story. Loeb, a Harvard College graduate based in Berkeley, California, also works as a freelance editor and writer and has been an active commentator on local journalism-policy issues, including state legislative efforts to address competition between technology platforms and news publishers.
