Biography

Al Letson, born August 8, 1972, is an American writer, journalist, radio and podcast host, and screenwriter. He was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, and moved to Orange Park, Florida at age twelve. Before entering journalism, he worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines while performing at poetry slams. In 2007, Letson won the Public Radio Talent Quest, a competition organized by the Public Radio Exchange and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, leading to State of the Re:Union, a show he created and hosted for six seasons on NPR and PRX from 2010 to 2015. Since 2013, he has hosted Reveal, the investigative radio show and podcast produced by the Center for Investigative Reporting and PRX; the program's pilot won a Peabody Award before going into full production in 2014. Reveal has won multiple Peabody, duPont, Emmy, and Murrow awards, including a 2026 duPont-Columbia Award for the episode “Kids Under Fire in Gaza” and a 2020 Gerald Loeb Award for Audio for “Amazon: Behind the Smiles.” Letson also received a 2022 Investigative Reporters and Editors Award in the audio category for the series Mississippi Goddam: The Ballad of Billy Joe, which was also nominated for a Peabody. In 2025, he began hosting the interview podcast More To The Story, also produced by the Center for Investigative Reporting and PRX. Letson has also written for DC Comics, including the 2025 limited series Mister Terrific: Year One, and wrote a stage adaptation of Julius Caesar produced by the Folger Theatre.
