As of September 2025, Leader Publications is owned by Paxton Media Group, LLC, a privately held, family-owned company based in Paducah, Kentucky, led by fifth-generation family member Jamie Paxton as President and CEO. Paxton acquired the company from Boone Newsmedia, Inc. (BNI), which had owned it since 1988.
The Niles Star was founded in 1886. The company was owned by the Plym family of Niles for many years, sold to Knight-Ridder in the 1970s, then to Walls Newspapers and later Les Daughtry. Boone acquired the company in 1988 and became sole owner of all Leader Publications properties in 2000.
