KOSIS (Korean Statistical Information Service) is South Korea's official national statistics portal, operated by the Ministry of Data and Statistics (formerly Statistics Korea). The service provides comprehensive, one-stop access to official statistical data produced by over 390 government and non-government statistical agencies in Korea, as well as key international indicators.
Statistics Korea, the parent organization, was established in the mid-20th century as the national statistics office and operates under the Ministry of Economy and Finance. KOSIS was developed as a centralized statistical database platform to consolidate data from Korea's decentralized national statistics system. As of 2021, the portal hosted over 170,000 official statistical tables covering 1,303 subject matters from 395 agencies. In October 2025, Statistics Korea was elevated to ministerial status and renamed the Ministry of Data and Statistics.
KOSIS aggregates statistical data across all major sectors including population, housing, labor, wages, economy, national accounts, industry, trade, agriculture, health, education, culture, environment, and social welfare. The system provides data in table format, as well as PDF documents and e-books. An English-language interface is available for international users, supplemented by global indicator data reflecting international economic and social trends.
KOSIS is freely accessible online. Users can search by subject group or statistical survey category. The portal supports data download, online analysis, and API access for developers. Statistical publications are available as PDF e-books for online viewing.
