The Kenya National Information Platform for Food Security and Nutrition (NIPFN) is a country-led, multi-sectoral data and policy platform designed to facilitate evidence-based decision-making on food security and nutrition in Kenya. It is jointly implemented by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA).
NIPFN is part of a global European Commission initiative supported by the United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Kenyan NIPFN is one of ten country-level platforms established within the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) movement, alongside platforms in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Laos, Niger, Uganda, Guatemala, and Ivory Coast. The web portal was officially launched on 16 June 2022.
The platform aggregates and analyses nutrition-related data from multiple Kenyan government ministries, including Health, Agriculture, Water, and Education, as well as from UN agencies and NGOs. It supports the Kenya Nutrition Action Plan (KNAP) and provides dashboards, research papers, and policy briefs relating to nutrition indicators at national and sub-national levels. A county-level rollout has been initiated, with a sub-national platform for Isiolo County launched in 2023.
The NIPFN portal is freely accessible at nipfn.knbs.or.ke and also via KIPPRA at nipfn.kippra.or.ke. It provides open access to nutrition-related datasets, research papers, policy briefs, and dashboards.
