The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) maintains a publications portal providing access to research outputs from Kenya's national health research body. KEMRI is one of the leading centres of excellence in health research on the African continent and globally.
KEMRI was established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979 as the national body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya. Its current legislative basis is the Science, Technology and Innovation Act of 2013 and Legal Notice No. 35 of March 2021. Over more than four decades, KEMRI has grown into a regional leader in human health research with 12 research centres across Kenya.
KEMRI's publications span a wide range of health research disciplines, including infectious diseases (malaria, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis), vaccines, cancer research, genomics, public health, and health systems. KEMRI is particularly noted for its research partnerships, including the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (established 1989) with the University of Oxford. The institute operates research centres in Nairobi, Kilifi, Kisumu, Kericho, and Busia, among other locations.
Publications are accessible via KEMRI's website at kemri.go.ke/publications. KEMRI also collaborates with international partners such as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which have contributed to a significant body of published research.
