The Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) maintains an online publications list providing public access to research outputs from Kenya's national marine and freshwater fisheries research institution. The list includes peer-reviewed journal articles, reports, and the institute's scientific journal, Kenya Aquatica.
KMFRI was established in 1979 under the Science and Technology Act (Cap. 250) of the Laws of Kenya, following the collapse of the East African Community. Prior to 1979, marine and freshwater research was conducted by the East African Marine Fisheries Research Organization (EAMFRO) and the East African Freshwater Fisheries Research Organization (EAFFRO). KMFRI's current legislative basis is the Science, Technology and Innovation Act No. 28 of 2013.
KMFRI's publications list encompasses research across three main directorates: Ocean and Coastal Systems (OCS), Freshwater Systems (FWS), and Aquaculture Research and Development (ARD). Publications cover marine fisheries, freshwater ecology, aquaculture, oceanography, environmental monitoring, and socioeconomic research. The institute also maintains an institutional repository and a library catalogue, and publishes Kenya Aquatica, its peer-reviewed scientific journal.
The publications list is freely accessible on KMFRI's website at kmfri.go.ke. KMFRI also operates an online institutional repository and a library catalogue for broader research access.
