Overview

The Kenya Gazette Archive Search is an online full-text search engine for the Kenya Gazette, developed by the National Council for Law Reporting (Kenya Law) in collaboration with Google Inc. It enables users to search within and across Kenya Gazette editions spanning more than a century of publication.

History and Background

The Kenya Gazette is the official publication of the Government of the Republic of Kenya. In collaboration with the Government Printer, the National Council for Law Reporting developed the search engine to facilitate access to Gazette editions dating back to 1901. The archive search tool was created as part of Kenya Law's broader mandate to provide universal access to Kenya's public legal information.

Collections and Holdings

The archive provides full-text search access to Kenya Gazette editions from 1901 to the present day. Issues span more than 120 years of official government notices, including legislation, appointments, public notices, and subsidiary legislation. The archive is accessible via the new Kenya Law portal at new.kenyalaw.org/gazettes.

Access and Usage

The archive is freely accessible online. Downloading or saving individual issues is not currently enabled, but users may copy and share a link to any specific record. The content is largely in the public domain and free from copyright restrictions except where expressly noted. Users can also use screen-capture features to save content for personal use.

Affiliated Institution

The Kenya Gazette Archive Search is maintained by the National Council for Law Reporting (Kenya Law), a semi-autonomous state corporation within Kenya's Judiciary, established under the National Council for Law Reporting Act (Act No. 11 of 1994) and formally operational from 1996.
