Kent State University is a public research university in Kent, Ohio.
Journalism at Kent State is housed in the School of Media and Journalism, one of five schools in the College of Communication and Information (CCI). The school is based in Franklin Hall and is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC), one of three ACEJMC-accredited journalism schools in Ohio. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a B.S. in Journalism and graduate programs in journalism education.
Kent State was established in 1910 as a normal school for training teachers, initially known as Kent State Normal School. It became Kent State College in 1929 and was elevated to university status in 1935. On May 4, 1970, four students were killed when the Ohio National Guard fired on anti-war protesters on campus, an event that drew national attention.
