Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, India
Kashmir Times is one of the oldest English-language news outlets in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Since November 2023 it has operated in a fully digital, multi-media format, having discontinued its print edition.
Founded in 1954 by Ved Bhasin. His daughter, Anuradha Bhasin, joined as a trainee reporter in 1989 and later became executive/managing editor. The paper's Srinagar office, allotted to the Bhasin family since the 1990s, was sealed by Jammu and Kashmir's Estates Department in October 2020 after Anuradha Bhasin filed a Supreme Court petition challenging the 2019 communications blackout in Kashmir; the outlet has said the office has been unused since 2021. The paper stopped its Srinagar print edition in March 2020 amid the COVID-19 lockdown and a reported cutoff of government advertising. In November 2025, Jammu and Kashmir's State Investigation Agency searched the unused Srinagar premises and filed a complaint naming Anuradha Bhasin, who currently lives abroad, alleging the outlet shared content it considered a threat to national sovereignty; Bhasin said she had received no formal notice of legal proceedings. Reporters Without Borders condemned the action as harassment.
Anuradha Bhasin's 2019 Supreme Court petition contributed to a partial restoration of communication services during the Jammu and Kashmir communications blackout. She authored "A Dismantled State: The Untold Story of Kashmir After Article 370," which Jammu and Kashmir's Home Department banned in August 2025 along with 24 other books on Kashmir's conflict, history and politics.
