Karin Gwinn Wilkins is dean of the School of Communication at the University of Miami, the school's fourth and first female dean, a role she began in September 2019. She came to Miami from the University of Texas at Austin's Moody College of Communication, where she spent 24 years, most recently as associate dean for faculty advancement and strategic initiatives and holder of the John T. Jones Jr. Centennial Professorship in Communication. A scholar of global media, development communication and social change, Wilkins is the author of 13 books, including Prisms of Prejudice: Mediating the Middle East from the United States (2021) and Communicating Gender and Advocating Accountability in Global Development (2015), and has served as editor-in-chief of the journal Communication Theory. She holds a Ph.D. and master's degree in communication from the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School and a bachelor's degree from Bucknell University, and is a fellow of the International Communication Association.
