Biography

Karen H. Grimes is an institutional investor and corporate director whose more than three-decade career centered on equity portfolio management, with particular expertise in media investments. She began her career as a field engineer at IBM after three years of service in the U.S. Army, then moved into investment research and portfolio management, holding roles at First Atlanta Corporation, Butcher & Singer, and Wilmington Trust Company, where she served as director of research and an equity analyst from 1988 to 1995. She joined Wellington Management Company in 1995 and spent more than 20 years there, ultimately serving as senior managing director, partner, and team leader and equity portfolio manager for Wellington's Global and U.S. Value Strategies, overseeing media investments in companies including CBS, Viacom, Fox, and Comcast; she also chaired Wellington's audit committee before retiring in 2018. Grimes holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Society of Philadelphia and the National Association of Corporate Directors. She graduated magna cum laude from Georgia State University with a bachelor's degree in finance. Since retiring from Wellington, Grimes has built a portfolio board career, serving as an independent director of Toll Brothers, Inc. since 2019, TEGNA Inc. from 2020 to 2025, and Corteva, Inc. since 2021, where she draws on her investment background to advise on shareholder value and corporate strategy.
