The KALRO e-Repository is the institutional digital repository of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), the premier national body for agricultural and livestock research in Kenya. The repository serves as a centralized platform for the capture, storage, preservation, and open dissemination of KALRO's accumulated research output in electronic format.
KALRO was established as a corporate body under the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Act of 2013, merging the former Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), the Coffee Research Foundation, the Tea Research Foundation, and the Kenya Sugar Research Foundation. The e-Repository was developed as part of KALRO's Library and Information Services mandate, with digitization of decades of research documents ongoing. The database has grown to over 13,000 records.
The repository contains research papers, technical reports, journal articles, and grey literature generated by KALRO's 18 research institutes. Subject areas include food crops, horticultural and industrial crops, livestock and range management, land and water management, soil health, biotechnology, and agricultural socio-economics. The archive spans decades of Kenyan agricultural research.
The repository is freely accessible online without registration, enabling researchers in Kenya, partner institutions, and international agricultural scientists to search and retrieve full-text documents. KALRO's Library and Information Services operates weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
