Jeanne du Toit is head of the School of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University in Makhanda, South Africa, and a senior lecturer specializing in journalism education, audio journalism and podcasting. She holds a BA (Hons) and Higher Diploma in Education and an MA from the University of Cape Town, and a Ph.D. from Stellenbosch University, where her 2013 dissertation examined the global and local development of university-based journalism education, with a detailed case study of South Africa. Early in her career she was involved with Bush Radio, a pioneering South African community radio station. At Rhodes, she coordinates audio storytelling and audio journalism specialization courses, supervises graduate students, and supports curriculum-development exchanges between JMS and other African tertiary institutions. She led the school's 50th-anniversary alumni awards program in 2025.
