Dr. James Kwaku Asante is a Ghanaian journalist and academic who serves as Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), formerly the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), where he is also a senior lecturer in broadcast journalism. A graduate of GIJ, where he majored in photojournalism, he spent more than a decade in media practice at the Ghanaian Times, one of Ghana's state-owned dailies, and at TV3, a private free-to-air television station, where he served as head of the political desk and official presidential correspondent. He joined GIJ in 2009 as a broadcast journalism lecturer. He holds a PhD in Media and Communication from the University of Westminster in England, a Master of Journalism from Cardiff University in Wales, and an MBA in advertising communication from the University of Glamorgan in Wales. His research interests include political communication, media content creation and analysis, broadcast content production and presentation, and media framing.
