Jahangirnagar University was established in 1970 under the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance of the Government of Pakistan. JU is one of Bangladesh's four autonomous universities and is the country's only fully residential university. The university is located approximately 32 kilometres from Dhaka, covering an area of approximately 697 acres. It hosts over 15,000 students and approximately 500 academic staff across 36 departments and six faculties.
