About Jahangirnagar University

Jahangirnagar University was established in 1970 under the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance of the Government of Pakistan. It was formally inaugurated on 12 January 1971, and after Bangladesh's independence, the Jahangirnagar University Act 1973 reconstituted and renamed the institution. JU is one of Bangladesh's four autonomous universities and is the country's only fully residential university. The university is located approximately 32 kilometres from Dhaka, covering an area of approximately 697 acres. It hosts over 15,000 students and approximately 500 academic staff across 36 departments and six faculties.
