Jackson County's news source since 1887. Southern Newspapers, Inc. of Houston, Texas, owned the paper from 1970 until 2019, when it was sold, along with sister papers The Sand Mountain Reporter (Albertville) and The Times-Journal (Fort Payne), to Patrick Graham, a Northeast Alabama newspaper executive who also owns The Walton Tribune and The Covington News in Georgia. The Jackson County Sentinel now operates under Graham's Southern Torch publishing group.
