The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Map Archive (Turkish: İBB Harita Müdürlüğü Arşivi) is the official cartographic archive of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi, or İBB). It is maintained by the Directorate of Mapping (Harita Müdürlüğü) and holds a significant collection of historical and contemporary maps of Istanbul, with portions accessible online.
The directorate's archive preserves topographic and administrative maps of Istanbul spanning several decades. The halihazır (base) map archive contains 1:1000 and 1:5000 scale maps from 1987 to 2022, while the ortophoto archive covers aerial photography from 1996 to 2022. The collection also includes classic maps predating 1982, approved at various dates at 1:1000 scale.
The archive documents the physical and administrative development of Istanbul across 39 districts, and includes district guide maps from 2019 and 2024. These materials serve as strategic references for the planning, development, and sustainable management of the city.
The archive is a primary source for understanding Istanbul's urban growth and transformation. It includes maps used for zoning, infrastructure planning, and cadastral purposes. The collection complements the broader Atatürk Library map archive, which holds historical cartographic materials dating back to the sixteenth century, including the famous German Blues (1913–1914), Jacques Pervititch's insurance maps, and the maps of Charles Edouard Goad.
Maps are available for consultation by public institutions, the private sector, academia, and city residents. Requests for specific maps can be made by contacting the directorate directly. Some materials are accessible through the online portal at haritamudurlugu.ibb.istanbul.
