Saint John, New Brunswick
J.D. Irving, Limited - Co-Chief Executive Officer
Jim Irving is co-chief executive officer of J.D. Irving, Limited, the New Brunswick-based conglomerate spanning forestry, shipbuilding, transportation, and other industries, a role he held alongside his brother, Robert K. Irving, until Robert's death in May 2026. He is a son of James K. Irving Sr. (1928-2024), who had led the family's businesses, including its newspaper holdings through Brunswick News Inc. In February 2022, Jim Irving was quoted in a company news release describing the sale of Brunswick News's newspapers to Postmedia as representing an 'exit from the media business' for J.D. Irving. Brunswick News, whose ownership by the Irving family dated to K.C. Irving's 1930s purchase of a Saint John weekly newspaper, had owned every English-language daily newspaper in New Brunswick prior to the sale, which was completed in March 2022.
