The Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology (IMOS) is Iraq's national meteorological and seismological authority, operating under the Ministry of Transportation. Based in Baghdad, IMOS is responsible for weather observation, forecasting, climate data collection, and seismic monitoring across Iraq. It maintains a network of weather stations and seismographic instruments and provides data to the Iraqi government, international organizations, and researchers.
IMOS operates Iraq's national seismological network, which includes multiple broadband seismic stations used to detect and characterize earthquake activity in the region. On the meteorological side, IMOS maintains historical climate records, publishes climate atlases — including the widely cited Atlas of the Climate of Iraq for the Period 1961–1990 (1994) — and provides daily and seasonal weather forecasts. The organization also contributes data to international bodies such as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
IMOS data is accessible to researchers and the public through the organization's official website. Academic publications citing IMOS seismic and meteorological datasets appear in journals including the Iraqi Journal of Science and the Iraqi Geological Journal.
