The Iraqi Agrometeorological Network is a network of automatic weather stations operated by the Iraqi Agrometeorological Center, a unit of Iraq's Ministry of Agriculture headquartered in Baghdad. The network was established to collect real-time weather and soil data across agricultural regions of Iraq, with the goal of providing evidence-based guidance to farmers, agricultural planners, and researchers.
The network consists of solar-powered, satellite-linked monitoring stations installed at agricultural sites across Iraq. Each station is equipped with sensors measuring air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, soil temperature, and soil moisture. Data is transmitted via satellite to the network's central data collection center at the Ministry of Agriculture building in Baghdad, where it is processed and made publicly available through the network's website.
The network's objectives include building a reliable agricultural climate database for use in research and planning, providing crop advisories linked to real-time weather conditions, and supporting sustainable land and water use across Iraq. The open data platform enables farmers to align irrigation schedules with local rainfall and evapotranspiration patterns and monitor heat or cold events during critical crop stages. The network was implemented in partnership with Al-Fakhar for Engineering Projects Co. Ltd. and built using Campbell Scientific monitoring equipment.
Data from the network is openly accessible at agromet.gov.iq. Researchers and farmers can submit formal data requests through the website's contact forms.
