The Iranian Research Institute for Information Science and Technology (IranDoc; Persian: مرکز اطلاعات و مدارک علمی ایران) is a national research institute affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology (MSRT) of Iran. Headquartered in Tehran, IranDoc is dedicated to research in information science and technology, the collection and dissemination of scientific documentation, and the development of scientific information networks and databases for Iran's academic and research community.
IranDoc was founded on September 23, 1968, under the name Iranian Documentation Centre (مرکز اسناد ایران), with the mission to 'bring modern information to scientists and professors.' In March 1969 it was incorporated into the Ministry of Science and Higher Education's Institute for Research and Planning in Science and Education. The organization has undergone several name changes over its history and has been known at various times as the Iranian Documentation Centre, the Iranian Research Institute for Scientific Information and Documentation, and finally the Iranian Research Institute for Information Science and Technology (IRANDOC). It has operated with effective independence since being reestablished under the Deputy Minister Office for Research in 1983. The institute's name IranDoc is the widely used informal abbreviation recognized by university students, professors, and researchers in Iran and internationally.
IranDoc has developed one of the largest Persian scientific and technical databases in Iran, with more than one million indexed records. Its databases and services receive thousands of users daily. Key holdings include the GANJ system for electronic theses and dissertations, scientometric data, research databases, and subject-specific information resources. IranDoc also maintains the largest repository of Iranian academic theses and dissertations.
IranDoc operates across five mission areas: research; scientific and technical information management; education; scientific cooperation; and supporting science and technology policy-making. The institute employs over 100 experts organized into nine research groups across three departments, with three research laboratories. It provides knowledge-based services in research and technology, information and information technology, and consulting and management.
IranDoc's English-language website is at en.irandoc.ac.ir. Its databases and services are accessible online.
