The Iran Meteorological Organization (IRIMO; Persian: سازمان هواشناسی کشور) is the national meteorological agency of Iran, headquartered in Tehran. It is an agency of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of the Government of Iran and serves as the principal authority responsible for meteorological observations, weather forecasting, climatology, and seismology across the country. IRIMO operates hundreds of observation stations nationwide and is a member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Meteorological activities in Iran date to 1929, when the first platform for measuring meteorological data was established at the Barzegaran school. Following World War II, formal meteorological observatories were established in Iran in 1948 by the Allied forces. IRIMO was formally established as an agency in 1948 and has since grown into a major national institution with 28 provincial offices managing regional meteorological activities across Iran.
IRIMO maintains extensive historical and current meteorological datasets covering temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind, and related climate variables from its network of weather stations across Iran's 31 provinces. These datasets are used for a wide range of applications including agriculture, aviation, urban planning, disaster risk reduction, and climate research. Historical climate data is available through IRIMO's online data portals, including the Havashenasi portal at havashenasi.irimo.ir.
IRIMO's organizational structure includes a president and three deputies: Technical and Operations, Research and Training, and Administration and Logistics. Research activities are focused on nine branches and managed from Tehran, with each provincial office maintaining applied meteorological research centers. IRIMO provides public weather services, aviation meteorology, agricultural meteorology, marine meteorology, and atmospheric research.
