Inyo Register is a community newspaper published three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) in Bishop, Inyo County, California.
Founded April 4, 1885, by P.A. Chalfant as Bishop's first newspaper. Chalfant passed the paper to his son William Arthur "Bill" Chalfant, who ran it for 56 years until 1942, when George W. Savage and Roy L. French bought it and formed Chalfant Press, Inc. to also manage the Inyo Independent and Owens Valley Progress-Citizen. Todd Watkins and Owen F. Cooper operated Chalfant Press for roughly 40 years before selling to brothers Deane and Ron Funk in 1983. The Funks sold the Inyo Register and The Review-Herald to Register Review Publishing Company, owned by Edward W. Scripps III, in June 1996. In February 1999, Register Review Publishing (including the Maui Bulletin of Hawaii) was acquired by American Publishing Company, a subsidiary of Hollinger Inc.
